Specialty Clinical Evaluation

Specialty Clinical Evaluation

At About Families, we are keenly aware of the importance of an accurate diagnosis of a child’s special health care needs. We realize this initial determination will have a profound impact on the life and treatment of a child and their family. As such, we strive to develop the most accurate and comprehensive evaluations possible. As part of this process, we will often utilize numerous treatment options in addition to the Initial Family Intake and Needs Determination (IFIND). These methods include, but are not limited to:

  • Clinical observations of the child at home, school, or community in order to help us gain a first hand experience of each child’s unique needs and strengths
  • With parental consent, a thorough review of existing clinical evaluations and assessments, IEP’s, EI plans, medical records and any other relevant treatment based documentation
  • Meetings and clinical contacts with school staff, primary care physicians, and other treatment providers

Specialty Evaluations

In the event that we are unable to determine an appropriate diagnosis or have additional concerns regarding an existing diagnosis due to new symptoms or developmental changes, we will refer families to our contracted psychologists at The Groden Center for an in depth psychological evaluation.

For children whose needs are largely medical in nature, we will work closely with their families on accessing appropriate evaluations at Hasbro Hospital and the Children’s Neurodevelopment Center.
